8000923Thanksgiving is almost here!  2009 is really flying by, and yes, it’s almost that Holiday time of year.  Here are a few things you can do on thanksgiving to be a little friendlier to the earth!
1) GO LOCAL!  Get your produce locally.  Now is the perfect time to hit up your local farmer’s market for potatoes, yams, sweet potatoes, beans, greens, pumpkins, and whatever else you fancy!  Since most traditional Thanksgiving recipes use ingredients that are in season at this time, you should be able to find everything you need.  Don’t forget the Turkey – you’ll be able to find much healthier, organically fed, non-hormone Turkeys from a local farm also!
2) DRINK GREEN!  Quench your thirst with organic vodka, gin, cider, wine or beer.  Don’t use bottled water, but instead consider using filtered water, and squeeze some fresh lemons in the pitcher.
3)  Use Natural or Organic decor.  Consider bamboo place mats, hemp or organic cotton tablecloths, and soy candles.  Make a commitment to decorate with a green twist.
4)  Commit to recycling!  Usually, Thanksgiving clean-up means a lot of trash.  Use recyclable or washable plates and dinnerware, and make sure you’re recycling all of your paper, plastic and glass.  Avoid Styrofoam at all costs!
I wish you all a Happy (and Green) Thanksgiving in 2009!
